The traffic technology of our city is very advanced. Other countries come and observe our system to borrow inspiration for their country's traffic control system, said Suresh* (name changed), a traffic police officer posted in MG road.

On August 10, the Times of India (TOI, Bengaluru) posted on their platform X handle about a Japanese system, Area Traffic Control System (ATCS) being introduced in the city for better traffic control. This system is said to reduce queue length at junctions by 30% and increase travel speed by 13%.

Speaking to One&haf stories, Suresh said that a similar technology has existed in the city for the past five years. " Bengaluru is very advanced in terms of the traffic system. There are technologies like surveillance cameras, local sensors set up at signals to detect anyone breaking traffic rules. These devices are linked to the control room as well," he said.

On platform X, many raised concerns pertaining to their area's traffic. Murtaza Kachwala, a mechanical engineer took to this platform to express his concern about the traffic in his area. " Do this on ORR and Silk board Junction," he said. Global Desi, a user of the platform, questioned the change in the behaviour of slow moving autos in the middle of the road.

" Took me 90 minutes to travel between Koramangala and Banashankari. How do you change the behaviour of a slow moving auto in the middle of the road or a two wheeler guy stopping to take a phone call in the middle of the traffic?" he said.
